Location portThe Port of Oulu is located in position 65 00´N, 25 28´ E on the Gulf of Bothnia in northern Finland. Oulu is about 610 km north of Helsinki. AuthorityPort of Oulu, Poikkimaantie 16 ApproachThere are two approach channels to the Port of Oulu with a depth of 10.0 metres: one via Kemi and the other via Oulu Lighthouse. AccommodationThe port has a total land area of 1.8 million square metres. It consists of four harbours: Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Vihreäsaari and Toppila. Oritkari is a general cargo harbour with a total quay legth of 575 metres. It has facilities for handling ro-ro, sto-ro and container traffic. There are two main quays: North Quay has two berths with a depth alongside of 10.0 metres. Its is used for loading reels, pallets, pulp and containers. Main Quay has three berths with a depth alongside of 9.0 metres. Its is used for loading reels, pallets, pulp and sawn timber and for loading/dicharging containers and general cargo. The quay has two ro-ro ramps and there is a 50 tonne crane equipped to handle containers. Oritkari has 10 warehouses (three are owned by the port authority and seven by Herman Andersson Oy). Total warehousing capacity is 62,400 square metres. The harbour also has 23,500 square metres of open storage and 18,000 square metres of bonded storage, and a bonded warehouse of 500 square metres. Nuottasaari is a specialised quay for handling raw materials and products in connection with the paper industry. Total quay length is 482 metres depth alongside is between 6.4 metres and 9.0 metres. There are two cranes of 8 tonnes and 5 tonnes. The Nuottasaari quay is used for loading pulp and for discharging kaolin, chemicals, timber and salt. There are also two chemical berths for discharging carbonate and other chemical products. Vihreäsaari is a bulk and oil harbour used for discharging oil products and dry bulk cargoes. There is one oil berth and one dry bulk berth. Total quay length is 222 metres and depth alongside is 10.0 metres. There is one crane of 6 tonnes capacity. The harbour has 27,000 square metres of open storage. Warehousing capacity for dry bulks is 23,000 cubic metres. Toppila is the original harbour of Oulu, now used mainly as a back-up facility for the other three harbours. Total quay length is 1,128 metres with a depth alongside of 6.1 metres. The harbour has 10,500 square metres of covered storage and and 4,850 square metres of open storage. The harbour is used for discharging cement. AirportOulu Arport at Oulunsalo is located 15 km from Oulu city centre. There are frequent flights to Helsinki as well as international connections to Stockholm Arlanda. CranesNuottasaari has two cranes of 8 tonnes and 5 tonnes. Oritkari has a 50 tonne container handling crane. Vihreäsaari has one crane of 6 tonnes. Handling equipmentHerman Andersson Oy own 70 vehicles including fork-lift trucks with capacities from 1.5 to 35 tonnes as well as mobile cranes of various sizes. Oulu railway station is 5 km from the port. Road linksExcellent local and national road infrastructure. The north-south E75 motorway is 1 km from the port, providing fast access to northern destinations as well as Helsinki in the south. The whole of north-east Finland can be reached by truck within one day. Ro-ro facilitiesThree berths of 25, 30 and 40 metres width with depths alongside of 9.9 metres and 10.0 metres. Working hoursStevedovers work Monday to Friday, 07.00 to 24.00 and Saturdays 07.00 to 16.00. Cranes and port services available 24 hours a day.
